1954 — 1969

The GMW Era & Model 2000

The Spark of Air Science

In 1954, Web Tisch purchased General Metal Works (GMW). Throughout the 50s and 60s, GMW fabricated blower motor assemblies for the U.S. Public Health Service, leading to the development of the first Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) High Volume Air Sampler—the Model 2000.

1970 — 1989

Growth & Change

A New Home for Innovation

1970 marked a turning point with the formation of the U.S. EPA and the purchase of the Avalon Theater for GMW production. We expanded by buying the neighboring butcher shop and adding a high bay building in 1980.

1990 — 1999

Tisch Environmental is Born

Bringing it Back

In 1998, W. John Tisch and Jim Tisch took a stand and founded Tisch Environmental, Inc. (TEI), ensuring the heritage of precision air sampling stayed local and family-led.

2023 — 2026

100% Employee Owned

The ESOP Promise

In 2023, TEI became 100% employee-owned. Today, the people welding the frames and answering your calls are owners of the company.
